Tyrol Ski and Sports opened in Mason City, Iowa on November 1st, 1976.  Nearly 7 years later in 1983 Tyrol Ski and Sports changed ownership to Wayne Blaisdell  and moved to a downtown location to became Wayne's Ski and Cycle.  The store stayed in that downtown location for the next 15 years, becoming a staple of the community.  In 1998 the store moved to a new location on the ever expanding west end of Mason City.  After owning Wayne's Ski and Cycle for over 20 years Wayne Blaisdell decided to retire and sell the business to Matt Curtis in 2004.  Matt found an opportunity to move the business back downtown and remodeled a building that had housed three separate business'.  The large ski warehouse was added on during the remodeling project.  In January 2020 Wayne's Ski and Cycle officially moved locations to our current downtown location at 15 6th ST SW in Mason City, Iowa.

Meet the Team

Matt - Owner

Matt joined Wayne's in 1992.  In 2004 he became the owner of Wayne's Ski and Cycle.  Matt has earned numerous awards such as 'Boss of the Year' in 2020 from the Mason City Chamber of Commerce and the 'Neal Smith Entrepreneur of the Year Award' in 2022 from America's SBDC Iowa.  Matt spends his time focusing on all aspects of the store and does a little bit of everything at the shop.  He can often be found wrenching on bike's, tuning up ski's or helping customers find what they need.  When he isn't in the shop he is often involved in the community such as with North Iowa Human Powered Trails helping design and maintain our local single track trails and helping out whenever he can with quite a few cycling based local organizations like Spin Devo, Mason City Mountain Bike Club and the North Iowa Touring Club.

Kyle - Sales

Kyle joined Wayne's in 2003.  He primarily focuses on the sales floor and the product we carry, though like everyone here he does a little bit of everything.  He is incredibly well versed in everything we carry at the store.  From skis, to snowboards, to bikes, recumbents and accessories - we often go to Kyle when we have questions as we know he holds a wealth of information.  Kyle has been around bikes and learning how to wrench on them since elementary.

Chad - Service Center

Chad joined Wayne's in 2019.  He is well versed in retail and the bike industry.  Chad heads up the Service Center.  While Chad spends a majority of his time wrenching on bikes he is knowledgeable in all aspects of the shop.  It doesn't matter if its bikes, skis or accessories he has a great general knowledge of all of our items.  He often takes on our most complicated repairs in the Service Center.  When he isn't at work he can be found volunteering time building and maintaining trails or mountain biking the area trails or getting lost on a gravel road.

Keegan - Fitness

Keegan joined Wayne's in 2018.  His primary focus is fitness equipment repair and delivery though he wears many hats at Wayne's (literally).  When he isn't working on repairing fitness equipment he is on the sales floor, in the shop wrenching on bikes, or in the warehouse working with all of the winter gear.  His knowledge stretches from winter skiing to summer biking.  Always providing service with a big smile because, "It's a labor of love for me."

Abe - Service Center

Abe joined Wayne's in 2022 after working in Human Services for 14 years.  Abe primarily focuses on building and repairing bikes in the Service Center.  He also spends time handling the Social Media for the shop.  You can often find him outside of work either riding MTB single track, maintaining/building the trails or cruising around town with his wife on their comfort bikes.

Skyler - Shipping/Receiving

Skyler joined Wayne's in 2023 and primarily focuses on Shipping and Receiving at the shop.  He graduated from Iowa State with a BA degree in Music.  Skyler got into mountain biking last season because his dad got a mountain bike, which quickly turned into Skyler and his brother getting mountain bikes.  He found that he enjoys shredding the single track and volunteering time maintaining the trails.

Charlie - Goodest Boy

Charlie has been coming into the shop with Matt almost daily since he was a pup 10 years ago.  He is friendly and absolutely loves to get pets and attention.  If you can't find Matt all you have to do is find Charlie as he is rarely away from him (unless someone has food, then that's a whole other story).
