Wayne's Ski and Cycle started out as Tyrol Ski and Sports, which opened in Mason City, Iowa on November 1st, 1976.  Nearly 7 years later in 1983, Tyrol Ski and Sports changed ownership to Wayne Blaisdell and moved to a downtown location to became Wayne's Ski and Cycle.  The store stayed in that downtown location for the next 15 years, becoming a staple of the community.  In 1998 the store moved to a new location on the ever expanding west end of Mason City.  After owning Wayne's Ski and Cycle for over 20 years Wayne Blaisdell decided to retire and sell the business to Matt Curtis in 2004.  Matt decided to keep the name of the store as "Wayne's" had become a household name in the area. Matt found an opportunity to move the business back downtown and remodeled a building that had previously housed three separate business'.  The large ski warehouse was added on during the remodeling project.  In January 2020 Wayne's Ski and Cycle officially moved locations to our current downtown location at 15 6th ST SW in Mason City, Iowa.

Meet the Team

Matt - Owner

Matt joined Wayne's in 1992.  In 2004 he became the owner of Wayne's Ski and Cycle.  Matt spends his time focusing on all aspects of the store and does a little bit of everything at the shop.  He can often be found wrenching on bikes, tuning up skis or helping customers find what they need.  When he isn't in the shop he is often involved in the community such as with North Iowa Human Powered Trails helping design and maintain our local single track trails and helping out whenever he can with quite a few cycling based local organizations like Mason City Mountain Bike Club and the North Iowa Touring Club.

Chad - General Manager

Chad joined Wayne's in 2019.  In that time he has held a number of roles, excelling at all of them.  In 2024 he became General Manager of Wayne's.  While Chad oversees the day to day operations he is also extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of the shop. He often advises our most complicated repairs in the Service Center and holds a wealth of knowledge all things bikes.  When he isn't at work he can be found mountain biking the area trails or getting lost on a gravel road.

Abe - Service Advisor

Abe joined Wayne's in 2022 after working in Human Services for 14 years.  Abe primarily focuses on being the Service Advisor and checking in bikes for repair.  He also spends time working on all the Social Media as well as building bikes and doing some repairs.  You can often find him outside of work either crashing on MTB single track or cruising around town with his wife on their comfort bikes.

Kyle - Lead Sales

Kyle joined Wayne's in 2003.  He primarily focuses on the sales floor and the product we carry - although like everyone here, he does a little bit of everything.  He is incredibly well versed in everything we carry at the store.  From skis, to snowboards, to bikes, recumbents and accessories - we often go to Kyle when we have questions as we know he holds a wealth of information.  Kyle has been around bikes and learning how to wrench on them since elementary.

Dave - Production Technician

Dave has been with us since 2014 and is currently Sem-Retired but you wouldn't know it.  He is currently our Production Technician and gets our most difficult repairs with having 25 years experience in the bike industry.  Dave is an avid cyclist.  He loves gravel riding for the adventure, cyclocross for the competition and road riding for speed.  Dave is easily one of the fastest riders in the area.

Skyler - Technician/Fitness Repair

Skyler has been with us since 2023.  He comes to us after graduating from Iowa State University with a BA in Music.  Skyler originally started on the sales floor although he proved to be extremely handy with a wrench and became one of our mechanics this year.  He has showcased his crafty skills and ingenuity often with some more complex repairs.  Recently he took on our Fitness Repair.  He loves mountain biking - often joining our group rides and clinics.

Charlie - Store Mascot

Charlie has been coming into the shop with Matt almost daily since he was a pup 12 years ago.  He is friendly and absolutely loves to get attention and some scratches (with a face like that how could you say no?). As our store mascot and resident greeter - we often find people who stop by "just to see Charlie".  We don't judge. If you can't find Matt all you have to do is find Charlie as he is rarely away from him (unless someone has food, then that's a whole other story).
